Pointing and Restoration
Exposure to the weather, structure movement and vegetation can degrade the mortar joints between bricks and stone.
If the mortar is flaky, friable or set back deep in the joints the structure will require repointing. Also if the mortar appears sound but you are experiencing damp within an older property it could be that an inappropriate mortar has been used in the past and needs replacing to allow the structure to breath.
The enhancement of repointing always exceeds our clients expectations and over time the cost benefits far exceed the costs involved with rendering and painting.
We always demonstrate best practice when taking on repointing projects:
Care is taken to minimise disruption to the existing structure.
Stones or bricks are replaced to resemble the original.
A lime or cement based mortar is chosen to resemble the original in colour and composition.
The new pointing is tended to and protected from the elements until the mortar is sufficiently cured.
